These creatures are well known by their beautifully patterned skin and even more so for their deadly poisons. At the peak of these stories, we discovered over 300 hunters who snuck in to find these animals and were subsequently brutalized by the creatures in one annum. This is because they produced dozens of toxins, all commingling to create their unique patterns. A common mixture of toxins is a neurotoxin that disables impulse control, another neurotoxin which increases the dopamine flow to the brain dramatically, and one which burns the skins (this manifests psychologically as itching), leaving the would be poacher to peel off their own skin without fully realizing what they are doing, a gruesome death, but not the most gruesome. There have been dozens of different mixtures reported with almost the same number of deaths. A larger problem then the individual effects these creatures have is how they seem able to influence large groups just as easily. In a test study run on pseudo-beings the creatures were able to influence groups of over 1000 beings easily with the effects being no less devastating then with a single being. Further, these studies revealed a latent intelligence, with the creatures being able to utilize group structure to have to produce less toxins; in a notable example in two different trials a Blintorch was able to utilize about 30% of it's normal toxin output to encourage the beings to kill each other, all within about 3 minutes of initial contact. For any researchers interested in working with these creatures you will be required to have undergone, and completed with high marks, psychological torture training, biohazard class B training, and the full emergency medical training course.
